Accessibility Statement - Bangkok Through My Eyes
Bangkok Through My Eyes is meant to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, who need larger text, who cannot use a mouse, or who find motion uncomfortable. This page says plainly what the site does today, what it does not do yet, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
The law and the standard we work to
The operator is based in Israel, where the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998, and the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 5773-2013, refer to Israeli Standard IS 5568, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) at level AA. We aim at WCAG 2.1 level AA, which is also the reference point of most accessibility rules in other countries.
What the site offers
The accessibility button sits in the bottom corner of every page. It opens a panel with seven settings, and each one is remembered on your device:
- High contrast - stronger separation between text and background.
- Greyscale - removes colour, which helps when colour is a distraction rather than information.
- Underlined links - so links do not depend on colour alone to be recognised.
- Readable font - a typeface designed to be easier with dyslexia.
- Reduced motion - stops animations, including the moving hero on the home page.
- Large cursor - a bigger pointer that is easier to track.
- Read aloud - speaks the page in your chosen language.
Separately, the settings menu in the navigation bar carries a light and a dark theme, three text sizes, and a choice of four typefaces including a monospaced option and your system font.
How the site is built
- Every page can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and a skip-to-content link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader user meets.
- Headings follow a real order rather than being chosen for their size, so a screen reader can navigate the structure.
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Decorative images are marked as decorative so a screen reader skips them instead of reading a filename.
- Text reflows down to a narrow phone without a horizontal scrollbar, and zooming to 200% does not cut content off.
- Right-to-left languages (Hebrew, Arabic, Persian and Urdu) get a genuine right-to-left layout, not a mirrored left-to-right one.
Languages
The site is available in 40 languages. The reviews, the news articles and the interface are all translated, and more languages are added regularly. Where a translation has not landed yet you will see the English original rather than an empty space, which we consider the honest failure mode.
Currently offered: Arabic, Bulgarian, Bangla, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Spanish, Persian, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Marathi, Malay, Norwegian Bokmål, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Filipino, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Chinese, Traditional Chinese.
Where we fall short
We would rather name these than let you discover them:
- The interactive map is a visual tool by nature. Every place on it also exists as a normal, readable page with its address, rating and details, but the map itself is hard to use without sight.
- Some colour pairings still fall below the contrast ratio we are aiming for. A weekly automated audit reports them and they are being worked through.
- A few controls are smaller than the recommended touch target on a phone. These are being enlarged.
- Read aloud uses the voices installed on your own device. Quality and available languages therefore vary between phones and browsers, and that is outside our control.
Conformance
The site partly conforms to WCAG 2.1 level AA. We are not claiming full conformance, because the site has not been audited by an independent accessibility expert and the gaps above are real. The site is reviewed against the standard every week and defects are fixed as they are found.
Physical accessibility
The business has no premises open to the public. The service is provided online only.
Tell us
If something here blocks you, or if you need information from the site in another accessible form, please tell us, and describe what happened and on which page rather than only what you expected:
- Email: connect@bangkoktme.com
- Telephone: +972-58-482-8855
- The Feedback tab on the side of every page.
We read every message, and an accessibility problem goes to the front of the queue.
