Baan Plern Jitt is a small Thai restaurant and cafe in a wooden house close to a century old on Khlong Bang Luang, the canal-side community off Soi Phetkasem 20 in Phasi Charoen. Most people come for old-style pad thai with a tamarind sauce, made with sen chan rice noodles, glass noodles or even macaroni, often with fresh prawns and an egg wrap. Thai dessert sets, toast with sangkhaya custard and cold longan juice round out the menu. The best seats are on the canal-side deck, where diners sit with their legs over the water and watch boats go by. Pad thai starts at about 69 baht. It opens daily from 11:00 to 17:00 and gets busy at weekends. Take the MRT to Bang Phai, exit 4, then a short motorbike taxi ride; drivers can park at Wat Kamphaeng.
