Baan Somtum is a second-generation family Isan restaurant business that opened its first branch at Phutthamonthon Sai 2 before 2006 and now has 9 branches around Bangkok and its suburbs; the Sathorn branch is on Soi Pramuan off Si Wiang Road in Bang Rak, in the Silom-Sathorn business district. The Michelin Guide Thailand, which awarded the restaurant a Bib Gourmand for 3 consecutive years to 2021, describes a menu with about 30 som tam variations made from ingredients sourced across the country, including Tam Luang Prabang with wide papaya sheets and pork crackling, plus grilled chicken with makuan spice, duck larb and steamed sea bass with Thai herbs; som tam starts around 70 baht and larb around 100 baht. The Michelin listing gives a spend of about 200-400 baht a person. The Sathorn branch opens daily 11:00-22:00 with the kitchen closing at 21:30, and takes reservations by phone; the company's website lists all branches with maps.

What visitors love

Diners love the wide choice of som tam, especially the version with crispy pork skin, made with fresh ingredients at fair prices.

Good to know

It is a bit pricier and more polished than a typical som tam shop, and the setting is more business district than street food.
