Charoen Saeng Silom is a small, no-frills shop on Silom Road next to Soi Charoen Krung 49 that has served khao kha moo, braised pork leg on rice, since 1959; the recipe came from the current owner's grandfather and has passed through three generations. The pork is braised slowly, for up to six hours, in a gravy of Chinese herbs until it is soft and caramelised, and comes with a house-made chilli sauce and pickles. It is listed in the MICHELIN Guide. Seating is tight, indoors and out, and it opens only from 07:00 to about 13:00, so the legs often sell out before noon. Prices are low, roughly 120 to 280 baht depending on the size of the leg, and it is cash only. BTS Saphan Taksin is a 5 to 10 minute walk.
