Go-Ang Kaomunkai Pratunam is the pink-shirted chicken rice shop at the mouth of Soi Phetchaburi 30, started in 1960 by Sombat 'Go-Ang' Pluekpaiboon, who learned Hainanese cooking from his father; the family now runs several branches, including an air-conditioned one in The Market Bangkok around the corner. The draw is khao man kai: thick slices of poached chicken over rice cooked in chicken fat, with a soy-based chilli dipping sauce, cucumber and a bowl of broth, plus sides of chicken liver and gizzard, braised pork, bitter melon and pork rib soup and iced chrysanthemum tea. It held a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2018 and 2019 guides and stays full of Thai and foreign customers. The stall is in Pratunam, about 600 m from BTS Chit Lom, exit 6, via the R-Walk. It opens daily in two sittings, roughly 06:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 22:00, with a managed queue. A plate costs about 50 baht and most people spend under 100 baht.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (8,100 reviews). Not our own visit.
Reviewers praise the tender, fragrant chicken and well-seasoned rice with a punchy dipping sauce at a very low price.
There is usually a queue, and the open-air seating is hot and hurried, so expect a quick in-and-out meal.
