The Grand Postal Building on Charoen Krung Road opened in 1940 as Bangkok's General Post Office, and its stern Art Deco facade is one of the best-known landmarks of the old riverside district. Since 2017 most of the building has been the home of the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), with exhibition galleries, a design shop, co-working space, a materials library and a large resource centre of design books; a branch post office still serves the public. General areas and the rooftop are free, while the resource centre needs a paid day pass. It sits between Si Phraya pier and the Oriental pier area, about a 15 to 20 minute walk from BTS Saphan Taksin. TCDC is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 to 19:00.

What visitors love

Visitors admire the striking 1940 architecture and love the calm design library, exhibitions and rooftop inside, a quiet place for inspiration.

Good to know

Getting there takes a walk or taxi from the Skytrain or pier, and some found the building itself less interesting if TCDC is closed.
