Jay Fai (Raan Jay Fai)
327 Maha Chai Road, Samran Rat, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200
Wed-Sat 09:00-19:00, closed Sun-Tue

Raan Jay Fai is a street-side shophouse restaurant on Maha Chai Road run by Supinya Junsuta, known as Jay Fai, who opened it in the 1980s and still cooks every dish herself over two charcoal braziers. It is known for wok-cooked seafood, above all the crab omelette (khai jiao pu), along with drunken noodles with seafood, tom yum and rat na; it has held one Michelin star every year since the inaugural Bangkok guide of 2018 and won the Asia's 50 Best Icon Award in 2021. The open-air room has around 10 tables. It sits in Samran Rat, in the Old City, about 10 minutes on foot from MRT Sam Yot. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 09:00 to 19:00, closed Sunday to Tuesday. Tables go by walk-in queue: customers arrive from early morning to register, and the whole party must be present to be seated. Cash only; the crab omelette is listed at 1,500 baht and a meal runs to about 2,000 baht per person.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (5,945 reviews). Not our own visit.
Fans rave about the wok-fried crab omelette and the theatre of Jay Fai cooking over charcoal in her goggles.
Many find it overpriced with small portions and a very long wait, so it can feel overrated for the cost and time.
