Jim Thompson House Museum
6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama I Road, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330
Daily 10:00-17:00 (last guided tour 17:00)

The Jim Thompson House Museum was the Bangkok home of James H. W. Thompson, the American businessman known as the Thai Silk King, who founded the Thai Silk Company in 1948. He assembled 6 teak houses beside Khlong Saen Saep in 1959, and after his disappearance in Malaysia in 1967 the property passed to the James H. W. Thompson Foundation, which runs it. Visitors come for Thompson's collection of Buddhist statues, Thai paintings and Chinese porcelain; the main house can only be entered with a museum guide, offered in Thai, English, French, Chinese and Japanese. The museum sits at the end of Soi Kasemsan 2 off Rama I Road in Pathum Wan, a short walk from BTS National Stadium, exit 1. It opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with the last guided tour at 17:00. Admission is 250 baht for adults and 150 baht for ages 10 to 21; no reservation is needed, and shoes and bags over 20 cm are left before entering the main house.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (32,050 reviews). Not our own visit.
Guides and the peaceful teak houses set among a lush garden win praise, along with the silk story and art collection.
Entry is by guided group tour only, so there can be a wait, and it is pricier than most Bangkok museums with no interior photos.
