Katsushin is a small three-storey tonkatsu restaurant on Soi Thanwa off Surawong Road, between Silom and Sam Yan, long popular with Japanese families and office workers at lunch. The room has dark wood, warm lighting and a counter where you can watch the cutlets being fried. The house specialities are pork loin and pork fillet cutlets in a light, crisp panko crust that reviewers say is not oily, served as sets; every diner gets a saucer of sesame seeds and a little pestle to grind them into the tonkatsu sauce. The menu also has fried prawns and oysters, a miso-sauce fillet set and raw dishes such as seared tuna. Prices are mid-range, with 7 percent VAT added. It is about 1 km from MRT Sam Yan or Silom and opens for lunch and dinner every day.
