Khlong Toei Market is Bangkok's biggest fresh market, a working wholesale and retail wet market on Rama IV Road in Khlong Toei District. Chefs, street vendors and restaurant buyers come for raw meat, live and iced seafood, poultry, tropical fruit, vegetables, curry and shrimp pastes, dried goods and flowers, alongside clothing and kitchenware, with stalls of ready-to-eat Thai food; Visit Thailand Today reports prices well below other markets, and CNN listed it in 2010 among the city's most authentic markets. It is loud, wet underfoot and not for the squeamish: whole animals, offal, frogs and insects are on display, and porters and motorbikes push through the lanes. MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre is about 4 minutes' walk, with MRT Khlong Toei also close. The market runs day and night, busiest 01:00-05:00 when restaurateurs buy and again 10:00-17:00; Wikipedia gives 06:00-02:00 as core hours.
