Kuang Heng Pratunam Chicken Rice
930 Phetchaburi Road (corner of the Pratunam intersection), Makkasan, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400
Daily from about 06:00 until at least midnight (Tripadvisor 06:00-24:00; Wongnai lists 24 hours; Trazy 05:00-02:00)

Kuang Heng is the 'green shirt' chicken rice shophouse on the corner of the Pratunam intersection, a few doors from its pink-shirted rival Go-Ang, and guides date it to 1932. The open-fronted room has no air conditioning; a second shopfront next door makes drinks, toast and satay. The signature is khao man kai, poached chicken cut into strips over rice cooked in chicken stock, with a soy-and-chilli dipping sauce, cucumber and a bowl of broth; there is also a mixed plate with fried chicken, pork satay, fish maw soup, fresh spring rolls and sweet kaya toast with Thai milk tea. Reviewers find the queues shorter than at its neighbour. It is in Pratunam, roughly 600 m or 10 minutes on foot from BTS Chit Lom. It opens daily from about 06:00 until at least midnight; listings differ, with one giving 24 hours. A plate of chicken rice costs under 100 baht, a medium chicken plate about 120 baht; cash only.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (3,400 reviews). Not our own visit.
Reviewers like the tender chicken and fragrant rice at a very low price, with a shorter wait than the pink-shirt rival across the road.
Several visitors find the chicken rice plain and not memorable compared with the reputation, and the room is hot and basic.
