The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Bangkok) is a private museum founded by telecommunications businessman Boonchai Bencharongkul to show his collection; it opened on 23 March 2012 and is dedicated to Silpa Bhirasri, the Italian-born founder of Silpakorn University. Five floors of galleries hold hundreds of works by Thai artists of the past century, including Thawan Duchanee, Chalermchai Kositpipat, Hem Vejakorn and Prateep Kochabua, a floor on the Khun Chang Khun Phaen epic and a gallery of international art, alongside temporary exhibitions that change through the year. The museum stands at 499 Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road beside Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Chatuchak, north Bangkok; the nearest station is Bang Khen on the SRT Red Line, exit 2, about 400 m away, or take a taxi from BTS Kasetsart University or Mo Chit. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, and closes on Mondays. General admission is 400 baht for adults and 120 baht for students; children under 13 and visitors over 60 enter free.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (4,500 reviews). Not our own visit.
Visitors love the huge, bright, uncrowded galleries and the sheer range of Thai contemporary art spread over five floors.
It sits a train ride and a short hop beyond Mo Chit, there is only coffee on site, and some works come with thin explanations.
