Museum Siam is a discovery museum run by the National Discovery Museum Institute, opened in 2007 in the former Ministry of Commerce building, a classical revival structure designed by Italian architect Mario Tamagno and completed in 1922 that is now a registered ancient monument. Its permanent exhibition, Decoding Thainess, uses 14 interactive zones to trace Thai identity through history, architecture, food, dress, belief and everyday objects; temporary exhibitions, talks and a knowledge library run alongside, and the grounds hold the Muse Kitchen restaurant and a shop. The museum stands at 4 Sanam Chai Road in the Old City, and MRT Sanam Chai, exit 1, opens directly in front of it; the Rajinee pier on the Chao Phraya is about 300 m away. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays. Adults, Thai or foreign, pay 100 baht, students 50 baht, and entry is free for under-15s and over-60s; tickets are sold online and at the door. Audio guides, lockers and wheelchairs are available.
