Nong Chok Park is a public park run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in the city's far eastern Nong Chok district, opened in 1987 on former wasteland. Locals call it the beautiful banyan park because its walkways run under big banyan trees, past flower beds and a large lotus pond with fish. People come to walk, jog and cycle on the paths, have a picnic on the lawns or let children use the playground, and the park is a quiet green escape in a largely rural, low-rise corner of the city. A district youth centre with indoor sports facilities also stands inside the grounds. The park is on Liap Wari Road in Krathum Rai, far from any rail line, so visitors come by car, taxi or local bus. It opens daily from 05:00 to 20:00 and entry is free.
