Sam Yan Market is a traditional fresh market in Pathum Wan that has served the area for about four decades and now trades from a cleaner, modern building on Soi Chula 32, off Rama IV Road. The ground floor sells fruit, vegetables, meat and live seafood such as fish and crabs, and a separate ready-to-eat food zone with cheap dishes from many cuisines fills with office workers at lunchtime. Reviewers praise the freshness, the choice of seafood and fair prices, and many say it is clean and calm for a wet market, though some floors are wet and slippery and the seafood section smells strongly. Mornings are the liveliest time to visit. MRT Sam Yan and Samyan Mitrtown mall are a short walk away. Entry is free.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (8,250 reviews). Not our own visit.
Shoppers love the very fresh produce and seafood, the cheap lunch stalls and how tidy the market feels for a wet market.
Wet, slippery floors and a strong smell around the seafood, and a few visitors feel tourists are quoted higher prices.
