Smalls

Smalls is a late-night bar and jazz venue in an old corner townhouse at 186/3-4 Suan Phlu Soi 1, Sathon, founded in 2014 by David Jacobson, the American photographer who started Q Bar. The three rickety floors are stripped back to the brickwork and hung with his contemporary art collection, with intimate nooks, dim red lighting and a popular rooftop terrace with its own bar. The house speciality is absinthe, and signature cocktails start at about 320 baht, including A Walk Among the Fairies (cachaça, absinthe, cherry liqueur and cranberry) and the G&TEA with three gins and lemon-ginger tea; the kitchen serves French bistro dishes, burgers and pizzas. Live jazz sets usually begin around 21:00 or 21:45, and Smalls ranked No. 42 on Asia's 50 Best Bars in 2019. It is in Thung Maha Mek, Sathon, off Suan Phlu Road. Open Monday and Wednesday to Sunday 18:00-02:00, closed Tuesday; book ahead for a terrace seat, and expect to stand on busy nights. No dress code is published.
