Som Tam Nua is the original branch of a well-known Isan restaurant brand, opened in the early 2000s on Siam Square Soi 5, opposite Siam Paragon; the group now has about a dozen branches, including one at Central Embassy. It is a busy, casual room where Thai diners and visitors queue at peak times, and you often order while you wait outside. Most people come for the crisp, well-marinated fried chicken with papaya salad and sticky rice, and for tam mua, a mixed salad with rice noodles, pork rind and fermented fish sauce. Larb, sour pork-bone soup and grilled pork neck round out the menu, with most dishes at about 100 to 160 baht. It opens daily from about 10:45 to 21:30, a few minutes' walk from BTS Siam.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (782 reviews). Not our own visit.
Fans keep coming back for the crisp, well-marinated fried chicken and the fiery tam mua, at fair prices for Siam.
Expect a queue at peak times, and some find the som tam too salty or sweet and the service rushed.
