Tom Yum Goong Banglamphu is a long-running, no-frills Thai kitchen on Soi Kraisi in Banglamphu, set up in front of the public car park building, two blocks from Khao San Road. Its fame rests on tom yum goong with plump river prawns in a sour, spicy broth enriched with prawn head fat, plus garlic-fried shrimp or squid, stir-fried clams and fluffy prawn omelettes. During road works at the car park the owners have sent diners to their second shop nearby on Phra Sumen Road. A regular bowl of tom yum with three prawns costs about 150-200 baht, and most meals come to 100-250 baht a head. It serves from morning into the early evening, so check hours before a late visit.
