Ton Son Mosque, once known as Kudi Yai, is a Sunni mosque on the bank of Khlong Bangkok Yai in Bangkok Yai district, on the Thonburi side of the river near Wat Arun. It was founded in 1688 and is regarded as the oldest mosque in Bangkok. The first building was a raised teak hall with a tiled roof; it was later rebuilt in brick and then in reinforced concrete in 1952, and today its dome is the signature image. The name means pine tree, after the trees that stood at its gate. Bang Luang Mosque sits across the canal. It is an active community mosque, so visitors should call ahead; times follow prayers. Reach it from MRT Itsaraphap by a walk or motorbike taxi. Entry is free, and the lanes around it have cheap halal street food.
