Wat Khun Chan, formally Wat Waramattaya Phanthasararam, is a colourful neighbourhood temple on Soi Thoet Thai 28 in Talat Phlu, on the Thonburi side, just across a small canal bridge from Wat Paknam and its giant Buddha. It mixes Thai and Burmese styles, and its centrepiece is a towering seated Buddha carried by three white elephants above a gilded figure of Rahu swallowing the moon, ringed by dragons, tigers and other painted creatures. There is also a reclining Buddha, a white jade Buddha and a Guan Yin shrine, and locals come to ward off bad luck in clash years. Few tourists stop, so it is usually quiet. It is open daily; BTS Wutthakat and Talat Phlu are each about 10 to 15 minutes away on foot, and canal boat tours can stop at its pier.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (48 reviews). Not our own visit.
Visitors love its surreal, glittering jumble of giant statues and mythical creatures, and how quiet it is compared with nearby Wat Paknam.
It is a little out of the way unless you arrive by canal boat, and a few visitors find the flashy, crowded decor more garish than peaceful.
