Daily 08:00-20:00

Wat Phra Sri Mahathat is a large working temple on Phahonyothin Road in Bang Khen, built in the early 1940s by the government of the day next to the Constitution Defence Monument at Lak Si Circle. Its centrepiece is a big white stupa with a smaller golden stupa inside that enshrines Buddha relics, and an ordination hall stands nearby. Visitors come to pay respects, walk the leafy grounds with their two lakes and small islands, and enjoy a calm temple far from the tourist crowds; the main hall is also busy with funeral ceremonies. The BTS Sukhumvit Line and MRT Pink Line interchange station of the same name is right beside it. The temple is open daily 08:00-20:00 and entry is free.

Visitors love how peaceful and green it feels compared with the crowded city-centre temples, with the white stupa and the lakeside grounds as the highlights.
Funeral ceremonies in the main hall can bring crowds and traffic, and parking fills up later in the day.
