Wat Soi Thong is a 19th-century Buddhist temple on the Chao Phraya River in Bang Sue, dating from around 1851; its name means temple of the golden necklace. Visitors come for the gilded spire and ornate roofs, the riverside chedi with its Buddha images, and Luang Pho Luea, the brass principal Buddha image cast from metal left over from other images. A favourite local ritual is feeding the large catfish that gather at the pier where the river meets Khlong Bang Son. It is a calm neighbourhood temple well off the tourist circuit, and reviewers praise how clean and peaceful it is. The easiest way in is the Chao Phraya Express Boat, which stops at the temple pier, or a taxi or Grab car to Pracharat Sai 1 Road.
