Wat That Thong is a large, busy temple on Sukhumvit Road, right beside BTS Ekkamai. It took its present form in 1937, when two older temples were merged, and its name joins both of theirs. A golden chedi in the grounds holds Buddha relics brought from the earlier riverside temple, and the ordination hall houses the principal Buddha image, Phra Sappanyu. Locals come to pray and make merit, and many Sukhumvit families hold funerals here, so cremation rites are a common sight. Reviewers describe a calm, uncrowded compound and a welcome break from the traffic outside. Exit 3 of BTS Ekkamai leads straight to the gate. The temple is open daily, roughly 08:00 to 17:00, entry is free, and visitors should avoid shorts and sleeveless tops.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (4,703 reviews). Not our own visit.
Visitors like finding a calm, uncrowded temple with golden Buddha images and traditional halls right beside the skytrain, a quiet break from busy Sukhumvit.
It is a working funeral temple, so several cremation ceremonies can be running at once, and some buildings feel modern rather than historic.
