Wong's Place is a tiny, long-running dive bar in a shophouse at 27/3 Soi Sri Bamphen, off Rama 4 Road near the old Malaysia Hotel in Sathon. Guides date it to 1987, when this pocket was the city's backpacker hub, and little seems to have changed: ragged red Chinese lanterns, walls of old photos and stacks of VHS tapes, with music videos playing on loop. It is known as the place to go once other bars close, opening around 22:00 and serving until early morning, often 07:00 or 08:00, although the hours depend on the owner. Drinks are cheap and the room is small, smoky and worn. Weekends after 02:00 are the liveliest. From outside it can look closed, so look for the shophouse door. MRT Lumphini is roughly 500 m away.
Rating from public reviews
Each part combines public reviews from several sites (23 reviews). Not our own visit.
Visitors love its time-capsule, anything-goes atmosphere and the cheap drinks that keep flowing long after the rest of the city has shut.
It is cramped, smoky and worn, the toilets are poor, service can be gruff, and on quiet weeknights there is little going on.
